Sightseeing in Ochsenfurt
Ochsenfurt is in Lower Franconia and belongs to the district of Würzburg. The historic old town is located on the left bank of the Main in the southern Franconian Wine Country. The city is surrounded by many vineyards.
Ochsenfurt has about 11,662 (as of November 2017) citizens. Our lifeline is the Main. Ochsenfurt looks back on a 1250-year history and is the largest city in the district of Würzburg. Located in the heart of the Franconian wine country, the city is easily accessible.
Well-developed cycling and hiking trails network in a contrasting recreational landscape along the Main, through forests and across the plateau of the Ochsenfurter Gau. Connection to many well-known cycling and walking routes. Direct location on various pilgrim trails (eg Jakobus- and Marienweg, Via Romea)
Excursion destinations in the surrounding area: Wine Trail and "Trias Museum on the Ochsenfurt" in Kleinochsenfurt and the Quaderkalkbruch as a prize-winning geotope above Kleinochsenfurt, monastery and Kartusermuseum in Tückelhausen.
The city of the walls - towers - gates
The medieval city fortification from the beginning of the 14th century with ring wall, ramparts and moat is still largely preserved. These include numerous towers and three of the original four city gates.
