The Historic Ochsenfurt
Ochsenfurt - with more than 1250-years of history - is the largest town in the district of Würzburg with about 35,000 residents. Ochsenfurt has the charm of an old Franconian town, surrounded by the vineyards of the Main valley. The historic the town hall with its famous clock tower is known beyond the borders of Franconia and a must see in town. Also visit the traditional costume museum, or take a guided city tour.

"Maintal" bike path and hiking trails nearby
The Maintal around Ochsenfurt is known for its well-developed bike paths and plenty of relaxing walks. The GoldGemäuer is located centrally in close proximity to various bike routes to Würzburg, Kitzingen, Marktbreit and the "Taubertal".

  • UNESCO World Heritage - The Residence: The Würzburg Residence is the main work of South German Baroque and also one of the largest castles in Europe.
  • The Fortress Marienberg, originally the stronghold of the Hallstatt period (around 1000 BC) - today is hosting the Main-Franconian Museum. This has an extraordinary collection of Frankish art, including the world famous sculptures by Tilman Riemenschneider; and in addition a prehistoric collection, an exhibition of Frankish wine culture and a folklore department.
  • The many churches Würzburg (the Duomo, Neumünster and the Marienkapelle in the city-center or the Käppele on the Nikolausberg) are all worth a visit by itself.
